Before the visit

How to prepare for the master's visit

General points apply to every visit. Pick a service if you only want to see what applies to it.

General — every visit

  • Clear the space where the master will work: the furniture itself plus about a metre around it.
  • It's best to keep children and pets in another room during the work — tools and small fasteners end up on the floor.
  • If the entrance has a door code or intercom, send the code in advance or come meet the master.

Furniture assembly

  • Put the boxes in the room where the furniture will stand. No need to unpack — we lay the packaging cardboard on the floor and assemble on it.
  • Check against the delivery note that all boxes have arrived. If one is missing, message us today and we'll reschedule the visit at no cost to you.
  • If the furniture needs to be anchored to the wall, let us know what the wall is made of (concrete, drywall) if you know. If not, no problem — the master will work it out on site.

IKEA PAX and wardrobes

  • The wall the wardrobe will stand against needs to be completely clear: it is assembled lying down and then lifted up.
  • The ceiling height at the installation spot: a 236 cm PAX is lifted up with about 10 cm of clearance. If your ceiling is lower than 246 cm, message us today.
  • If there is a rug on the floor, it is best to remove it: the wardrobe is leveled against the floor.

Kitchen installation

  • The room is empty: the old kitchen is removed (or we have agreed that we will remove it), the walls and floor are ready.
  • The modules, countertop and appliances have been delivered and are in this room or the next.
  • The project or layout — printed or on your phone. If there is no project, mark on the wall in pencil which cabinet goes where.
  • Water and electricity are present in the room; the connection points are where the project calls for them.

Built-in appliances

  • The appliance is unpacked or sitting next to the niche; the manual is at hand.
  • The old appliance is unplugged. Do not shut off the water under the sink yourself if you are not sure where the valve is — the master will do it.
  • Access to the socket and hoses behind the appliance is clear: take out anything in the way from the lower cabinets.

Furniture repair and adjustment

  • The cabinets and drawers that need fixing — empty, or at least without anything fragile.
  • If the broken part has already come off, do not throw it away — it is used to match a replacement.

TV, shelves and mirrors

  • The TV and bracket are unpacked, the fasteners from the kit are all in one place.
  • Decide on the height in advance: it is comfortable when the middle of the screen is at the eye level of someone seated.
  • Clear furniture about a metre from the wall and below it — there will be drilling and dust, the master will cover the rest.
  • If you know where the wiring runs inside the wall (for example from a socket up to a switch), tell the master.

Handyman

  • Write the list of jobs down on paper or your phone — nothing gets forgotten and it all fits into one visit.
  • For each job, have the material at hand: curtain rail, shelf, mirror, light fixture.

Tiling, grouting and silicone

  • The bathroom or WC is clear: remove everything you can from shelves and ledges.
  • The evening before, do not use the shower if we are replacing the silicone: the joints need to be dry.
  • If you bought the tile yourself, it is in the apartment, with a 5–10% surplus.

Apartment preparation

  • The apartment is empty, or the furniture is gathered in the middle of the rooms — this speeds up both painting and flooring.
  • Keys: if you will not be there, we will agree how the master gets into the apartment and who gets the keys back.
  • The list of work we agreed on is at hand for both you and the master; if anything has been added, message us today.

Kitchen rescue

  • Take the contents out of any cabinets and drawers that have gone crooked.
  • If you have documents for the kitchen (a project, a hardware list), they help with matching parts.

Painting

  • Take down pictures, shelves and curtain rails from the walls; curtains too.
  • It is best to move furniture out or gather it in the middle of the room — we will cover it with film.
  • Turn off underfloor heating during the work: the paint dries more evenly.
  • If you are buying the paint yourself, have it in the apartment, with the color agreed.

Interior door installation

  • Clear the path to the door and about 2 m of working space.
  • If you've already bought the doors, don't unpack them until the master has checked the set.
  • Tell us what the wall is made of, if you know.

Door repair and adjustment

  • Clear the path to the door and about 2 m of working space.

Small plumbing jobs

  • Clear the cabinet under the sink.
  • If you already bought the mixer tap, keep the box close by.
  • Take a photo of the connection under the sink.

Kitchen front and countertop replacement

  • Clear the cabinets whose fronts we are replacing, or at least the top shelves.
  • If the new fronts have already been delivered, leave them in their packaging near the kitchen.

The master takes care of the rest on site.
